Robert suffers tough start to his Superleague Formula campaign
DONINGTON, AUGUST 31 2008 – Robert Doornbos experienced a hard first round in this weekend’s Superleague Formula inaugural event at Donington Park (UK). After having started from fifth position in Sunday’s first race, his AC Milan car suffered an fuel leak in the opening lap which eventually caused a failure to his V12-powered 750-horsepower engine. Despite making up two positions in only the first corner, Doornbos was forced to retire before ending the first lap. With only a small break (two hours) between the races, his Scuderia Playteam was not able to change his engine in this short timeframe. Therefore Doornbos was not given the chance to show his potential in the second race, in which he was supposed to start from pole position.
ROBERT DOORNBOS: “Overall the weekend went well until the start of the first race. Of course, I am bitterly disappointed with the incident with my car at the start of the race. I was used to the rolling starts from last year in Champ Car and things should have gone better especially because I was third at turn one.
